Why add a watermark to video content?
Good clips get reposted, often without credit. A watermark with your @name turns every repost into free advertising for your channel: viewers can find you even when the uploader doesn't tag you.
It also discourages lazy reposting. Accounts that collect other people's videos usually skip clips with a clear watermark, because they can't easily pass them off as their own.
Where to put your watermark
- Bottom-right is the convention for landscape videos and the least distracting.
- Top-left or top-right works best for vertical videos, because Shorts, TikTok and Reels cover the bottom and right side with buttons and captions.
- Opacity around 70–85% is visible without shouting over your content.
- Size: big enough to read on a phone, small enough not to cover faces.
Making a vertical version first? Convert it with the Shorts Maker, then add your watermark.
A watermark that can't be switched off
This tool burns the text into the video frames themselves. Unlike captions or overlays added inside an app, it can't be turned off, and cropping it out means losing that corner of the video. That makes it a reliable way to put your name on a video before sharing it anywhere.
Watermark video online, privately
The watermark is rendered by ffmpeg running inside your browser with WebAssembly. Your video never leaves your device — useful for unreleased content, client work or anything you'd rather not hand to an online service. And of course, we add no watermark of our own.
Recommended watermark position per format
| Video format | Best corner | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Landscape 16:9 (YouTube) | Bottom-right | Classic position, away from titles |
| Vertical 9:16 (Shorts, TikTok, Reels) | Top-left | Bottom and right are covered by app buttons |
| Square 1:1 (feed posts) | Bottom-left | Stays visible in feed previews |

Tips for best results
- Use your exact @handle so people can search for it.
- Avoid the bottom-right on vertical videos — app buttons cover it.
- Keep opacity between 70% and 85% for a balance of visibility and style.
- Watermark the final version; trimming afterwards is fine, cropping may cut it off.
- Keep an unwatermarked original for your own archive.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a watermark to a video for free?
Drop your video into the tool above, type your @name or channel, choose the corner, size and opacity, then click Export. Every logged-in account gets 5 free exports per day, reset at midnight Brussels time. The watermark is burned in, and no other branding is added.
Can I use a logo image instead of text?
Not yet — the tool currently adds text such as @yourchannel or your website. Text stays sharp at any size and covers what most creators need. Image logos are on the list for a future update; until then, a clear handle is the simplest way to make reposts traceable.
Can someone remove my watermark?
The watermark is burned into the video frames, so it can't be switched off like a caption. Someone could crop the video to remove a corner, but that loses part of the picture and is easy to spot. Placing the watermark slightly away from the very edge makes cropping harder.
Where should I put a watermark on a vertical video?
On Shorts, TikTok and Reels, the bottom and right side are covered by buttons, the caption and the audio label. The top-left corner is usually the safest place for a watermark on 9:16 videos. On landscape YouTube videos, bottom-right is the classic choice.
Is my video uploaded when I add a watermark?
No. The watermark is added by ffmpeg running inside your browser with WebAssembly. Your video is read from your disk, processed in memory and saved back to your downloads. Nothing is sent to a server, which keeps unreleased and client videos private.
Will adding a watermark lower the quality?
The video is re-encoded with high-quality H.264 settings, so the picture looks practically identical to the original. The watermark text itself is rendered sharply at the video's own resolution. The output is a standard MP4 that plays on every phone and platform.
