When to speed up and when to slow down

Speed up long tutorials, cooking prep, drawing sessions or travel footage to keep viewers watching. Slow down jumps, splashes, tricks and reactions to show detail and drama. 2× is the most popular choice for Shorts, 0.5× for satisfying slow motion.

Does the audio sound weird?

The tool uses ffmpeg's atempo filter, which changes tempo without raising or lowering pitch. Voices stay recognisable even at 2×. At extreme settings like 4× or 0.25× speech gets hard to follow, so consider muting and adding music with the Mute Video tool.

Speed changes stay private

Everything runs in your browser with ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your file is never uploaded. It is processed in your device's memory and saved straight to your downloads.

Tips for best results

  • Trim the clip first with the Video Trimmer so you only speed up the part you need.
  • Slow motion looks smoothest on footage filmed at 60 fps or higher.
  • Use 2× for process videos; it keeps the action readable.
  • For timelapse, 4× plus background music beats fast speech.

Frequently asked questions

How do I speed up a video?

Drop your video into the tool above, pick a speed such as 1.5× or 2×, and click Change speed. The tool re-encodes the clip at the new speed in your browser and gives you an MP4 to download. The new length is shown before you export, so there are no surprises.

Can I make slow motion videos?

Yes. Choose 0.75×, 0.5× or 0.25× to slow the clip down. Frames are stretched in time, so footage filmed at a high frame rate gives the smoothest slow motion. Ordinary 30 fps phone video still works well at 0.5× for dramatic moments and highlights.

Does the sound change pitch?

No. The audio tempo is adjusted with a pitch-preserving filter, so voices don't turn into chipmunks when sped up or into deep growls when slowed down. At very extreme speeds speech becomes hard to understand, which is why many creators mute the clip and add music instead.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video speed changer runs entirely in your browser. Your file is read from your disk, processed in memory with ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly and saved back to your downloads. Nothing is sent to a server, so private footage stays private.

How much does it cost?

Each export uses one of your five free daily uses, or one credit once those run out. There is no watermark and no subscription. If the export fails for any reason, the free use or credit is refunded automatically.

What is the maximum speed?

You can go from 0.25× (four times slower) up to 4× (four times faster). Bigger jumps rarely look good, and these steps cover slow motion, normal fast forward and timelapse styles that work on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.
